Shadia or Fatimah Kamal Shaker was born on February 8th in Cairo to an Egyptian family. She was the youngest between her siblings Taher, Afaf, Suad, and Muhammad. Her singing talents began to show early so her father assigned her a music teacher, Her first screen appearance was in the movie Roses and Thorns (Azhar Wa Ashwak). Soon enough, she became one of the most important stars in both singing and acting.


Her name Shadia was given to her by the director Helmy Rafla. Shadia produced 117 films; over than 600 songs also she has one stage experience (Rayya Wa Sikina) and six radio dramas.

Shadia never asked for a title yet she was given many. In the beginning of her career, people called her The Darling of the Egyptian Cinema. In the 1950’s she earned another title: The Foremost Movie Star. And she was always a sure box office draw thus actors made sure to co-star with her especially in their first appearance like Abdul Haleem Hafiz did in Lahn Al Wafa ( The Melody of Devotion) .
 

 Shadia and Kamal Alshinawy were the most famous duo in the Egyptian Cinema. They co-stared in about 30 films.
 

 

Shadia received several awards and trophies. First prize of acting on her film Mrs.-X (Almara’ Almajhoola) which was a turn point in her acting career. The film was played in USSR theaters successfully. Shadia began to read and educate her self and look for new characters to produce. she played Fuadeh in “Some Fear” Shay Min Alkhawf then Sayyedeh in (We don’t plant thorns) Nahnu La Nazra3 Alshawk.

 Then she produced the character in the famous author Najeeb Mahfuz’s novel Zuqaq ElMadaq, and Nour in Alles Wal Kilab to the same author Shadia went on and on, turning from one success to another.

Her last film was (Don’t ask me who I am) Latasalny Man Ana. She costarted in an Egyptian Japanese film “On the Banks of the Nile.” She has two unsuccessful experiments in film production: A night in my life (Liela Min Umry) and The Beach of Memories (Shati Al Zikrayat)
 

On her other part of her career “singing” she was given the title Voice of Egypt because of her great nationalistic songs. She dealt with most of the top musicians like Abdul-Wahab, Muneer Murad, Baleegh Hamdy, Kamal Al Taweel and others.

 

also encouraged beginner musicians and new talents by singing their melodies like Khalid Alameer.She sang every kind of singing, light, religious, nationalistic, duo she sang for love, farewell, she has many songs for children whom she loved but couldn’t create.

 No one can forget ya Salam 3ala 7ubby w7ubbak a duo with Fareed AlAtrash and 7aga ghareeba another duo with Abdel Haleem Hafez. Her singing journey has many turn points.

 In the biginings she sang the light song which people loved and memorized very well .She stopped singing for a wile about 6 years then she came back with a new style: Folk songs like Asmarany Ellon and Qulu la ain elshams.

 Shadia also sang the long songs and she was as good as she was in the light songs last song was Khod Be Edy the song that was nominated as the best song of the year in1986 and Shadia as the best female singer.

 

Shadia has retired after this song and began a new life she has chosen . Dedicating her self to worshipping and living in piece leaving lights and popularity behind
All her life Shadia was an example every one should follow. Every step in her way she watched out and cared for people either they were family, audience, or career mates. She deserved to be hailed The Idol of Masses
